ABOUT RHYME OF THE DAY:

On January 1st I made a new year's resolution to upload a rhyme to youtube every day in 2010. 6 months later, I am more than halfway to my goal!

As you can imagine, this project has, by its very nature, been a pretty constant presence in my life. It’s been incredibly rewarding on a creative level to generate this much material, and I have found that, rather than running out of ideas, every idea tends to just generate three more. For example.

MIXTAPES: After a string of requests, I decided to create a compilation of all of January’s rhymes for people to download for free. In exchange, I asked for donations to flobots.org from friends and Rhyme of the Day fans. Making the mixtape involved learning some new software, and also just finding time between everything else, so it took me until July, but I did it!

YEAR-END RHYMATHON: Another idea that came up is to perform all 365 days consecutively when the year is over. (There is some speculation that I might even be able to set the Guinness record for “Longest rap performance”). This is still just an idea, not a commitment, but I’m really hoping to make it happen. I just have to convince my mother it won’t hurt my voice.

RHYME IS MONEY: The response to my January mixtape idea in terms of donations helped me realize that the Rhyme of the Day could be a fundraising tool for Flobots.org (Indeed, it was eating up so much of my time, that finding a way to kill two birds with one stone was, in fact vital!) So, at the end of last March I reached out to friends, family, and fans and asked for you to “Sponsor” my first three months and first three mixtapes. Thanks to your incredible generosity, I met and exceeded my fundraising goal.

Now that I’m past the halfway mark, I’m once again requesting your support. My goal is to raise a thousand dollars to close out the second quarter. Can you help me get there by July 14th?

This is a exciting and critical time for Flobots.org. Please feel free to explore this site and learn more about our work. I am grateful to be able to convert my passion into fuel for the organization. But it’s no accident. The premise of our work is that music is powerful. Thank you so much for proving this correct.

Sincerely,

Jonny 5
